Developer/CTA Interview
Petr Kominek
System Developer, Quantraders.com
Program(s) Developed: Driver Trading Systems
Interview Date: February, 2019
Interviewed by Martin Lembak
The driver systems, led by Driver NQ, will cross the one-year actual results track record next month. Quantrader.com is a rising name in the industry.
Martin Lembak: Hello Petr, tell us a bit about yourself, where do you live to raise your family?

Petr Kominek: Well, I am 40 years old. I was born in the north of the Czech Republic in town Most. I spent my childhood near my birthplace in Litvinov, the town of ice hockey. In addition to trading and development, I founded a business firm a decade ago that works successfully. I am also the owner of quantraders.com. Now I live with my wife and children near Litvinov in our house.

Martin Lembak: How the idea of developing automated trading systems did come to you, is it related to your background?

Petr Kominek: I learned about trading while looking for earnings on the Internet, so I read the many articles and I knew right away that this is what I want to do. I started to read books and slowly learned what trading was about. After about two years I jumped into live futures trading, but I quickly realized that trading is not really that easy.

After a while, I decided to leave discretionary trading and to get involved in programming. I slowly learned to code and penetrated into algo-trading. I must emphasize the importance of high quality backtest and robustness tests for trading. It was a long way, but it paid off a lot, and now my job is my hobby.

Martin Lembak: Can you describe your basic market philosophy?

Petr Kominek: If you want to make money on the market, your strategy must have strong fundamental basis!

Martin Lembak: Your menu of fully automated trading systems uses technical tools to produce short-term trading signals for futures markets. Is there a common trading theory for your trading systems or are they based on different parameters?

Petr Kominek: Trading is not easy, but it may not be complicated. I've been wandering for a few years in trading and looking for a start, trying unnecessarily complicated ways.

Now I know for sure in simplicity is power.

I'm building all my systems as idea-first, the system must have a maximum of 1-2 fixed input parameters. From my experience this brings the highest robustness of the system, the common theory is again a strong fundamental logic!

Martin Lembak: Do you have anything in the "What's New" category you would like to share with our readers?

Petr Kominek: I'm very pleased to be able to offer all the traders and investors new strategies in addition to currently running DRIVER systems here at Striker. By the end of 2019, I will have several more new trading systems, two smaller portfolios and one big portfolio traded at Striker.

All the portfolios I'm preparing are now being tested on my server and live accounts, I will be very pleased to see that the new strategies will be ready and run for clients at Striker at the end of the year.

Martin Lembak: For other developers or traders reading this interview, what books do or study courses you recommend for someone to learn how to program trading systems?

Petr Kominek: I myself have learned to program in C # only from the Ninja Trader Guide and Easy Language Essentials. Surely, it is very good to read books and go through courses from traders who can show their real results!

As the excellent ones I can recommend the courses of Petr Podhajsky at financnik.cz or by Tomas Nesnidal at systemsontheroad.com who are the experienced traders and lecturers.

I would recommend to everyone, do not be afraid to code. A comprehensive out of sample "OOS" backtest will help you a lot in the beginnings of the systems you trade. Programming does not require complex codes, simple codes on several lines, if they have the force of logic, can work for many years.

I wish all readers good trading!

There is a risk of loss in trading. It is the nature of commodity and securities trading that where there is the opportunity for profit, there is also the risk of loss. Commodity trading involves a certain degree of risk, and may not be suitable for all investors. Derivative transactions, including futures, are complex and carry the risk of substantial losses. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results. Please read additional risk matters on our web site, www.striker.com. It is important you understand all the risks involved with trading, and you should only trade with risk capital. This communication is intended for the sole use of the intended recipient.

The trading performance cited throughout our web site is based on actual trading history, unless otherwise noted. The starting account balance is based on the system developer recommendation. Striker tracks actual performance by recording and maintaining each trade ticket for each system generated. The performance information assumes that no additions or withdrawals have been made. The rate of return for all systems disclosed in the Striker Report is cumulative from the day the system actually started trading at Striker. We maintain a "life" track for all 3rd party systems. We do not necessarily base our records on any particular client account. No one particular customer has achieved these results. The percentage returns reflect inclusion of commissions and fees. The actual percentage gains/losses experienced by investors will vary depending on many factors, including, but not limited to: starting account balances, market behavior, the duration and extent of investor participation (whether or not a client takes all signals for a system) in the specified system and money management techniques.

Striker is a revolutionary concept in action: an international, professional team of brokers dedicated to trading only for clients. It bears repeating: unlike most other brokers, Striker does NOT trade futures for itself or any of its employees. This policy has been in place from the start in order to guarantee that our entire focus remains on the interests of our clientele. Striker believes that when brokers are allowed to trade for themselves (or have in-house trading practices) there is a strong potential for conflict of interest, as the broker may place more importance on his own trading activities (or that of his firm's) than on those of his clients. Finally, Striker has no financial ties to system developers, so there no bias or pressure on how we report the actual trading results posted in our client section. This section is designed specifically for Striker's clients, so they may audit their results on a daily, weekly, monthly, or annual basis.
