Developer/CTA Interview
Vadim Epstein
Emet-Trading Solutions
Program(s) Developed: Emet-Trading Solutions
Interview Date: December, 2012
Interviewed by John F. Gallwas - Founder of Striker Securities
Vadim Epstein started as a software developer in 2003 and since 2009 has been actively working on trading system as manager of the Auto-Trading Department for Strategy Runner Server Side APL. Before Strategy Runner closed in 2012, this department developed about 300 projects for automated trading under his leadership. Seeing a continuing need for these special programming services, Mr. Epstein formed Emet-Trading-Solutions, located in Donetsk, Ukraine.
John Gallwas: When you were manager of the Auto-Trading Department at Strategy Runner, what types of system trading projects did your department develop?

Vadim Epstein: The projects we provided ranged from very simple systems based on one indicator to complex programs with a multitude of parameters and many indicators involved. The systems were designed for both the futures as well as the forex markets.

John Gallwas: After Strategy Runner collapsed, you formed Emet-Trading-Solutions to provide software solutions to system developers and others. What is the profile of someone that might use your services now and how do you respond to their needs?

Vadim Epstein: Our clients are traders interested in the markets with some computer operational capabilities, but little or no programming skills. They also realize that one of the keys to successful trading is controlling the human emotions which lead then to the concept of computerized trading. Our service is to automate their trading program so that the computer does the trading, without the trader giving up control of the trading system.

We started by taking care of our Strategy Runner's clients, who needed conversion of their working strategy to new trading platform. We are now offering full-service programming for individual traders or organizations that want to automate their manual systems or to upgrade existing systems.

John Gallwas: As you know, at Striker, we work with many 3rd party system developers and publish their actual performance daily. What services could you provide these professional developers who are already in business?

Vadim Epstein: My guess is that very few of Striker's customers are professional programmers, but that some may have a trading concept that they would like to automate and test. In addition, there may be others with trading systems that should be updated to take advantage of changing market conditions or that need to be programmed for a new platform.

John Gallwas: Based on your work with automated trading systems, what are the key features you have found necessary for a profitable automated program?

Vadim Epstein: I think this question is more trader related rather than a programmer, as our task is to produce a program that automates trader’s strategy. However, we do believe one of the keys to success is automated trading, because the human element is removed and each trading signal is consistently followed.

John Gallwas: Is there anything in the "What's New" that you would like to pass on to our readers

Vadim Epstein: Our focus for the near term is to expand our existing service business, before we try anything new.

There is a risk of loss in trading. It is the nature of commodity and securities trading that where there is the opportunity for profit, there is also the risk of loss. Commodity trading involves a certain degree of risk, and may not be suitable for all investors. Derivative transactions, including futures, are complex and carry the risk of substantial losses. Past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results. Please read additional risk matters on our web site, www.striker.com. It is important you understand all the risks involved with trading, and you should only trade with risk capital. This communication is intended for the sole use of the intended recipient.

The trading performance cited throughout our web site is based on actual trading history, unless otherwise noted. The starting account balance is based on the system developer recommendation. Striker tracks actual performance by recording and maintaining each trade ticket for each system generated. The performance information assumes that no additions or withdrawals have been made. The rate of return for all systems disclosed in the Striker Report is cumulative from the day the system actually started trading at Striker. We maintain a "life" track for all 3rd party systems. We do not necessarily base our records on any particular client account. No one particular customer has achieved these results. The percentage returns reflect inclusion of commissions and fees. The actual percentage gains/losses experienced by investors will vary depending on many factors, including, but not limited to: starting account balances, market behavior, the duration and extent of investor participation (whether or not a client takes all signals for a system) in the specified system and money management techniques.

Striker is a revolutionary concept in action: an international, professional team of brokers dedicated to trading only for clients. It bears repeating: unlike most other brokers, Striker does NOT trade futures for itself or any of its employees. This policy has been in place from the start in order to guarantee that our entire focus remains on the interests of our clientele. Striker believes that when brokers are allowed to trade for themselves (or have in-house trading practices) there is a strong potential for conflict of interest, as the broker may place more importance on his own trading activities (or that of his firm's) than on those of his clients. Finally, Striker has no financial ties to system developers, so there no bias or pressure on how we report the actual trading results posted in our client section. This section is designed specifically for Striker's clients, so they may audit their results on a daily, weekly, monthly, or annual basis.
